Mark A. Conrad

Mark A. Conrad was appointed as Chairman of the Massachusetts Parole Board by Governor Deval Patrick in 2008.  Prior to this appointment, Mark served as a Massachusetts Parole Board Member, and was a police officer for the Milton Police Department for almost two decades where he was involved in the coordination and implementation of several community initiatives including the Drug Awareness Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Camp and a summer youth basketball mentoring program.

A community advocate at heart, Mark's commitment to help underserved communities first began as a job developer and training coordinator at Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) of Boston, and later as an employment specialist at Employment Resources Incorporated (ERI) in Cambridge, MA.  Today he has focused his career on improving the lives of citizens by protecting the public while also promoting responsible offender reintegration.  In addition, Mark is a committed advocate for youth mentoring initiatives and ending domestic violence against women and children. As part of his activities in the community, Mark will teach a graduate class on Rehabilitation and Integration as an adjunct professor at Boston University (BU) in the fall, and is the Commissioner of the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision, which has sole authority for regulating the transfer of adult probation and parole supervision across state boundaries, including all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mr. Conrad serves on the Board of the George Lewis Ruffin Society, the Correctional Association of Massachusetts, Boston Central Elderly Services and is an Advisory Board Member for the Tremont Credit Union.  In addition, he is a member of the Boston Chapter of the National Association of Advancement for Colored People (NAACP), the National Black MBA Association, and the Nexus Alliance and is an ordained Deacon at Morning Star Baptist Church. He has also been recognized for his advocacy and commitment to the community by the Norfolk Prosecutor's Association, Criminal Justice Policy Coalition, the Correctional Association of Massachusetts, and the District Attorney's Association.  In 2009, the State of Georgia Parole Board awarded Chairman Conrad their Leadership Award, and most recently, Mark was presented with the Advocacy Award by Spectrum Health Systems for his "service and commitment to those individuals and their families affected by substance abuse."

Boston University Metropolitan College will honor Mark with their Distinguished Alumni Award at convocation this June. Mark holds a Master's degree from Boston University and a Bachelor's degree from Curry College, both in Criminal Justice.  A native of Cambridge, Massachusetts Mark lives in Milton with his wife, three sons and their spoiled labradoodle.
